Paris, 2021-12-22 10:59:38. Bette Midler Apologizes to West Virginia Residents for Tweet ‘Poor, Illiterate, Torn’
Bette Midler has apologized to the West Virginians after a tweet she posted regarding US Senator Joe Manchin.
On Monday, the star expressed frustration with Manchin, who represents the West Virginian, when he announced he would not support the Rebuilding Better Act for President Joe Biden.
Midler originally tweeted, “What #Joe Mansion, a demographic smaller than Brooklyn, has done to the rest of America, that wants to go forward, not backward, like his state, is horrific.”
“We’re sold,” she wrote. “He wants us all to be like his state, West Virginia. Poor, illiterate and closed off.”
There was a swift backlash, and Midler later tweeted an apology.
“My apologies to the good folks of WVA for my recent outburst,” she wrote on Twitter, in part. “I only see red.”
I apologize to the good folks of WVA for my recent outburst. I only see red. #Joe Manchin and his whole family is a criminal act. Is it really the best WV company to offer to its citizens? Surely someone has the best interest of the state at heart and not his own!

What #JoeManchin, who represents a smaller number of Brooklyn residents, has done to the rest of America, who want to go forward, not backward, like his state, is horrific. We have sold. He wants us all to be like his state, West Virginia. Poor, illiterate and campy.
