Musician Bobby Nelson, pianist, bandmate and beloved sister of singer Willie Nelson, has died at the age of 91.
Nelson posted an honest statement about his sister’s death on Instagram late Thursday.
“From the Nelson family: Bobby Nelson passed away peacefully this morning, surrounded by family,” the statement read. “Her elegance, grace, beauty and talent made this world a better place. She was Willie’s first female member, as a pianist and singer. Our hearts are broken and she will be sorely missed. But we are very lucky to have her in our lives. Please keep her family in your thoughts and give them the privacy they need at this time.” .”
Bobbie has been a member of the Willie Nelson and Family band for over 50 years. Nelson and his sister were so close, they even released a memoir together called “Sister Bobby and I: True Tales of the Family Band” in 2020.
At the time Nelson told People magazine, “She’s been my best friend of her life. I’m glad she got some recognition for what she’s done in her life.”
