Sydney, 2022-05-02 18:22:00. Drew Barrymore apologizes for commenting on Deep Heard’s trial
Drew Barrymore has apologized for “highlighting” Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s defamation trial.
He is suing Depp Heard, his ex-wife, for $50 million, alleging she tarnished his reputation with a 2018 Washington Post op-ed in which she wrote about her experience with domestic violence.
Depp was not mentioned by name in Heard’s article, but he said it costs him the business.
On her talk show last week, Barrymore described the trial as “seven layers of madness” and “madness.”
“It’s like one layer of madness,” Barrymore said. “It’s a regression of seven layers of madness. I know these are two real people’s lives and I know what your life looks like in public.” “I understand all the feelings, but they are actually giving this information that no one should have known. This is crazy!”
Barrymore took to social media to say she could have been more thoughtful.
“It came to my knowledge that I offended people by highlighting Johnny Depp and Amber Heard, and for that I just want to deeply apologize and appreciate everyone who spoke because this can be a teachable moment for me and how I am moving forward,” Barrymore said in a video posted to Instagram. Being a more thoughtful and better person moving forward because all I want to do is be a good person, and I deeply appreciate the depth of this and I will evolve and change from it.”
The trial, which began on April 11, is expected to last six weeks. Heard is expected to testify this week.
