Lin-Manuel Miranda to miss the Oscars after contracting COVID-19

L.A, 2022-03-26 20:21:00. Lin-Manuel Miranda to miss the Oscars after contracting COVID-19

LOS ANGELES — One of this year’s Academy Awards nominees, Lin-Manuel Miranda, will be seated at the ceremony after his wife tested positive for COVID-19.

Miranda shared the unfortunate news on Twitter Saturday afternoon. He said that although he tested negative himself, he would stay away from Sunday’s concert with caution.

“I made it to Hollywood,” Miranda wrote. “This weekend, my wife has been tested + (positive) for COVID. She is fine. The kids and I have tested – (negative) but out of caution, I am not going to the Oscars tomorrow night.”

The Oscar-nominated composer added, “Cheering my TickTickBoom & Encanto family with my family, along with all of you.”

Miranda won an Oscar for Best Original Song for “Dos Oruguitas” from the animated movie “Encanto.” If he wins, he will earn rare EGOT status, which means he will be the winner of an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar and a Tony.

The “Hamilton” composer will also miss the live premiere of his hugely popular song “We Don’t Talk About Bruno,” also from “Encanto,” a movie about a Colombian clan with magical powers. The addictive tune became the loudest song from a Disney animated movie in over 26 years.

The multi-talented Miranda also directed “Tick, tick…Boom.!” Which was nominated for two Oscars, one for star Andrew Garfield for Best Actor.
