LOS ANGELES ( — “Obi-Wan Kenobi” has finally received a May premiere date on Disney Plus. And no, not the Fourth of May.

Disney CEO Bob Chuckle announced on the company’s earnings call Wednesday that the “Star Wars” series led by Ewan McGregor will begin May 25 on the Disney-owned streaming service. May 25 is also the 45th anniversary of the release of Star Wars: A New Hope.

“Obi-Wan Kenobi” is set 10 years after the dramatic events of “Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith” as Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi faces his greatest defeat – the fall and corruption of his close friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker, who has turned side Darkness as evil Sith Lord Darth Vader.

McGregor reprises his role as Obi-Wan alongside Anakin himself, Hayden Christensen. The series also stars Moses Ingram, Joel Edgerton, Bonnie Pace, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, Robert Friend, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Song Kang, Simon Kessel and Benny Safdie.

The series is produced by Kathleen Kennedy, Michelle Ragwan, Deborah Chow, Ewan McGregor, and Jubie Harold.

News of the premiere date for the much-anticipated “Obi-Wan Kenobi” comes on the heels of Disney Plus announcing Wednesday that 2021 will end with 129.8 million paying customers worldwide, a gain of 11.8 million from the quarter ending January 1, 2022. That number blew up Previous forecasts, where analysts on average expected a net addition of 7.3 million for the period, per FactSet.

Overall, The Walt Disney Company reported revenue of $21.82 billion and adjusted earnings per share of $1.06 for the period, the company’s first quarter of fiscal year 2022. This easily beat analyst consensus estimates of $18.36 billion in revenue and earnings per share. 61 cents.
