New York, 2022-03-28 01:43:26. Oscar 2022: Jessica Chastain wins Best Actress
Los Angeles – The Oscars looked kindly on Jessica Chastain.
She won the Academy Award for Best Actress Sunday night for “The Eyes of Tami Fay,” which depicted the rise, fall, and redemption of TV prodigy Tami Fay Packer.
Chastain emerged as the best Oscar late in the season, securing a surprise win at the SAG Awards before adding the Critics’ Choice for a movie released six months earlier.
However, she was in awe of the moment.
“I still can’t fathom that I’m holding an Oscar,” Chastain said backstage.
Besides acting, Chastain is one of the film’s producers. She sponsored the project for years after first securing the rights to Baker’s life in 2012, when she watched the documentary on which the film is based. Packer died of cancer at the age of 65 in 2007.
“It is so special to be a part of a film that means something to me because it corrects an injustice. It reconsiders life,” she said behind the scenes. “It is so important that we give each other our flowers when we’re still alive, and I feel like we’ve lost these.” opportunity with Tami Fay.”
Chastain said she was texting Baker’s kids during the telecast.
Upon accepting the trophy from Anthony Hopkins, Chastain noted violence against minorities and that suicide was a major cause of death for the gay community, saying she was inspired by Baker’s sympathy.
“Her radical acts of love inspired me,” Chastain said. “I was inspired by her compassion and I see it as a guiding principle that leads us forward.”
Chastain joins a long list of actors who have won a portrayal of a famous character, including Meryl Streep as Margaret Thatcher in 2011’s The Iron Lady.
Chastain is almost unrecognizable in the movie due to the physical transformation she underwent to portray Bakker over the course of 30 years. In some scenes, she wore face prosthetics, artificial teeth, and changed hair colors and styles.
The film also won an Academy Award for makeup and hairstyling.
Chastain sings several songs in the movie. It received mixed reviews from critics, who praised the acting but not the script. The film grossed a paltry $2.7 million while it was shown in theaters before it was made available via broadcast.
Chastain has been nominated for Academy Awards twice in the past but hasn’t won – in 2012 for supporting actress in “The Help” and in 2013 for Best Actress in Zero Dark Thirty.
Chastain, who turned 45 on Thursday, was raised by a single mother in Sacramento, California. She pursued her passion for acting in the city junior college and later joined Juilliard on a scholarship funded by alumni Robin Williams.
Chastain defeated Olivia Colman from The Lost Daughter, Penélope Cruz from Parallel Mothers, Nicole Kidman from Being the Ricardos, and Kristen Stewart from Spencer.
