“Rust” cast and crew members released a letter Thursday saying that describing the film as a “wrong, dangerous and exploitative workplace” distracts from the tragic death of filmmaker Halina Hutchins, 42, and the need to reform “outdated firearms industry and safety practices.” time”.

The message, signed by 25 people, was posted to Alec Baldwin’s Instagram account with the caption “From some RUST crew.”

“Morale working on set was high. Laughter and optimism were common among the cast and crew. From the director all the way to the production assistants, all departments worked well together, collaborated and helped each other achieve common artistic goals. We knew we were producing a good job. Taking beautiful pictures and great performances, and we were so proud to have done it,” the letter stated.

Tim Barrera, second assistant director, told CNN that this letter “was a team effort that was completely independent of any outside entity” and that “the reason we didn’t talk to anyone about our experience was because we felt we needed a united front.”

“We support each other and cooperate with investigators,” the letter said. “We hope that your speculations and generalizations about us and our colleagues will be sympathetic until the investigation is completed.”

The letter acknowledges that some crew members had problems with production and quit before Hutchins’ death, but “the vast majority of us stayed, and we never felt the need to protest or quit. We were enjoying our workplace. These disgruntled people don’t represent all of our views.”

Parreira said he signed the letter and said that all of the people included in the letter either took part in the letter’s drafting or agreed to put their names into the letter themselves.

Asked to respond to the letter, lawyer for Serge Svetnoy, the filmmaker who is suing Baldwin and other producers for negligence, said, “Many of the people on site and hard-working crew members were unaware of the serious safety violations that were taking place. On the rust basis Yumi. Alec Baldwin, as the producer, knew or should have known the unsafe conditions. Moreover, he was the one who aimed the gun at another human and threw the hammer with the fatal shot. He can’t escape responsibility.”

Baldwin fired a weapon on set October 21 that contained what investigators called a suspected live round, killing cinematographer Hutchins and wounding director Joel Sousa, 48. Baldwin said he believed the gun did not have live ammunition, according to court documents.
