L.A, 2022-01-13 21:38:00. Spider-Man’s comic page sells for a record $3.36 million
DALLAS – A single page of artwork from the 1984 Spider-Man picture book sold at auction Thursday for $3.36 million.
Mike Zeke’s artwork brings to page 25 of Marvel Comics “Secret Wars No. 8” the debut of Spidey’s black suit. An even suit will eventually lead to a Venom character.
The record bid, which started at $330,000 and topped $3 million, came on the first day of the four-day Heritage Auctions comic event in Dallas.
The previous record for an inside page for an American comic book was $657,250 per art from the 1974 edition of “The Incredible Hulk” that featured a thriller for Wolverine’s debut.
Also Thursday, one of the few surviving copies of Superman’s debut, Action Comics #1, sold for $3.18 million, making it among the most expensive books ever auctioned.
