New York, 2022-06-23 14:10:29. The Daytime Emmys are returning to the live show in person
Pasadena, California –
After two years of reality drama and isolation due to the coronavirus pandemic, the stars and shows of daytime television gather in person to hand out awards at the Daytime Emmys.
Entertainment Tonight’s Kevin Frazier and Nestle Turner host the awards, returning to a live event at full capacity at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium. The 2020 version became virtual for the first time due to COVID-19. Last year’s show was pre-recorded with a limited audience.
The 49th Annual Awards premieres Friday at 9 p.m. ET on CBS and streams on Paramount+.
Presenters include Drew Barrymore, Deidre Hall, Tamron Hall and Cameron Mathison. Michael Bolton will sing his new song “Beautiful World” and perform during the “In Memoriam” segment.
For the first time, soaps and their seasons are pitted against each other in the category of daytime dramas. NBC’s “Days of Our Lives” goes against Peacock Streamer’s “Days of Our Lives: Beyond Salem.” Also among the contenders are CBS’ “The Bold and the Beautiful,” “The Young and the Restless,” and ABC’s “General Hospital.”
“The Young and the Restless” headed to the show with 18 nominations, including six in major acting categories. General Hospital got 17 nods. These are two of the four remaining series that are still on broadcast networks.
Pat Sajak competes with himself and three others in the Game Show Host category. He was nominated for his feature length work on “Wheel of Fortune” as well as the celebrity version that airs on ABC.
With Ellen DeGeneres recently retiring from her talk show, Kelly Clarkson is preparing to take on her mantle as well as DeGeneres’ old time period. The singer could claim her third consecutive host award for an entertainment talk show, and her group show is vying for her second consecutive honor.
Jennifer’s father, John Aniston, was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award for his 37-year role as Victor Kyriakis in Days of Our Lives.
Last week’s Creative Arts and Lifestyle gala capped some famous names.
Bruce Springsteen’s wife, Patti Silva, has her own glass to add to the family mantel. She was an executive producer on PBS’ “Shelter Me: Soul Awakened,” which won a special during the day.
EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony) winner John Legend added a Daytime Emmy Award as executive producer on PBS’ “The Black Church,” which won a short-form daytime show.
DeGeneres’ show named the writing team for a non-fiction series won the day, earning the comedian the final Daytime Emmy Award of her decorated 19-year career.
